The Travelers Championship

"Do not let anyone look down on you because you are young. Instead, set an example with your speech, life, love, faith and purity"

The term "Kenosis" refers to emptying oneself. It is knowing in the end that you used up everything that you had, you have left it all behind. As a member of the Greater Hartford Jaycees, you have a unique opportunity to do such a thing as a young person. By giving your all, throwing in you full effort, you have the chance to change the world that we live in.

One way to begin to have such an affect is through the Travelers Championship, the Greater Hartford Jaycees longest running fundraiser. By volunteering at CT's only PGA TOUR event, you will be helping the Greater Hartford Jaycees raise funds to give back to the community. These funds will provide city kids with a new playscape, the disabled with Christmas gifts, and help deserving high school seniors attend college.

The Greater Hartford Jaycees started this tournament in 1952 and we have played a major role in it ever since. Throughout its 56 year history, we have seen some of the world’s top golfers, Greg Norman, Stewart Cink, Lee Trevino, and Phil Mickelson compete and win in Hartford. The success of the tournament has given the Jaycees the opportunity to give back over $25 million to the Greater Hartford Community.

2008 brings many exciting changes to the Travelers Championship. Construction of a new practice facility began in 2007, and will be completed for the 2008 Tournament. This new practice facility will rank in the top tier of all practice facilities on TOUR. The old driving range will be clear, and will allow more space for a Corporate Village, concerts, and other exciting events.

The opportunities as a Greater Hartford Jaycee to help at the Travelers Championship are endless. If you love working with television personalities, join Media or Public Relations and have the chance to meet them all. You can spend time on Corporate Row, helping to keep our sponsors happy and coming back for many years. Or if finance is your thing, join the team and help count all of the money that will go back to the Greater Hartford area and make a difference for many generations of people.

Join me in 2008 in practicing "Kenosis". Volunteer at the Travelers Championship, help raise funds for the Greater Hartford Jaycees, and know in the end, when you have emptied yourself and left it all behind, your efforts have truly made a difference.
