Scholarship Application

Each spring the Scholarships Committee awards several $10,000 per year scholarships to eligible high school seniors (see Criteria below) to be used toward college tuition and two additional Canon Scholarships for $25,000 per year.

Scholarship Types

One (1) $25,000 Canon Technologies Scholarship, to a student who will pursue a degree in the field of technology.

One (1) $25,000 Canon Environmental Scholarship, to a student who will pursue a degree in an environmental field.

One (1) $10,000 Sammy Davis Junior Scholarship, to a student who will pursue a degree in the performing arts.

Additional $10,000 General Scholarships for academic purposes as determined by the Greater Hartford Jaycees Foundation Board of Directors.

Criteria

Applicants MUST: 

• Reside within the designated service area of the Greater Hartford Jaycees Foundation for the past twelve (12) months.  (Please see Geograpical Areas Served.)
• Be a United States Citizen, a permanent alien, or if not a U.S. Citizen or permanent alien, maintain residency in the United States until the college education for which the scholarship is awarded is completed.
• Graduate from a high school within the designated service area by the current July.
• Anticipate attending an accredited degree granting, four-year college, two-year junior college or technical institution.
• Display a need for financial assistance.
• Exhibit academic ability.
• Have participated in some form of community service while in high school.

Process:
Submit the General Scholarship Application Form, School Transcript, an essay explaining why college is important to you, two or more letters of recommendation from a teacher or guidance counselor, and FAF or FAFSA.  Mail to:  VP of Scholarships, Greater Hartford Jaycees, One Financial Plaza, Hartford, CT. 06103.

Application Deadline
Applications must be postmarked by March 15, 2008
