You have powers you never dreamed of.
You can do things you never thought you could do.
There are no limitations in what you can do except the limitations of your own mind.

The President's Message

The Greater Hartford Jaycees have had a strong Legacy in our Tournament for over 55 years. What started as a failed Turtle Race became the Insurance City Open and now the Travelers Championship, the Greater Hartford Jaycees sole fundraiser and Legacy…

Today, the Tournament is still going strong, and we continue to be a powerful organization, changing with the times, ready to grow, lead and shape our next generation of leaders.

Our goals and challenges are many. We are on our way towards a renewed effort in expanding and developing our programs to provide meaningful membership experiences while successfully impacting the mission of our organization, Leadership Development through Community Service. Over the past few years we have gone through great change which has taken time away in the development of our programs and projects. Now, we are back on the road of creating a new and bright future.

The future of the Greater Hartford Jaycees has no limit. And, it all depends on our dedicated members. Each and every member gives what they can - their time, energy and enthusiasm - in small ways, big ways and in every which way in between. Every member is appreciated for their contributions, strengths and expertise - whether those skills are already present or are being developed. And, I believe every member would agree that what you receive from the Greater Hartford Jaycees is far greater than what you give in the end.

As a young professional organization of members between the ages of 21 and 40, we develop and fine tune our skills. When it comes time to leave, will you as a member and individual have left behind a program that can be built upon? What will it take for the new leader and members to keep the program growing and serving the mission of the organization? The future depends on what we do in the present. We don't always know how, but what we do today impacts each day of the future. How can you preserve the meaningful experiences that you have given to yourself, our members, and the community?

When your time to leave comes, what will your Legacy be?

Here are some of the things you can do to build your own Legacy:

Join a Committee – share your thoughts and ideas, make your mark, help move this organization or a project forward
Chair a project - something new and different, make it your own and leave it behind for the next leader to expand upon
Serve on the Chapter Board of Directors – make an impact and help shape the face of this great organization
Serve on the Foundation Board of Directors – help give grants to amazing community non-profits that truly improve the lives of others
Apply for the Tournament Executive Committee – and, be a significant contributor in creating "A New Era. A New Experience."

Are you ready to stretch yourself and your mind - grow and reinvent this organization – your organization – and develop the future leaders of the Jaycees, your town, state, nation and the world? Now is the time. As we build on our past successes and continue to be a strong asset to the Travelers Championship, we can also make this organization reach new heights and create a bright future and new Legacy for years to come…
